With the recent up rise in recreational
Swordfishing, and the shutdown of commercial longlining of Florida 's East
Coast, we are able to truly enjoy great swordfishing. While some nights are
better than others, we are getting numerous shots at swordfish just about every
night. We have made it our favorite sport fishing adventure.
If you are looking to do battle with the
toughest game fish South Florida has to offer, night swordfishing in the
Gulfstream is your best bet. A typical night of
Swordfishing starts out by leaving the dock around 4pm. We may catch a few
live baits and then run to the fishing grounds roughly 20 miles offshore . We
then setup a nice spread of fresh squid and various other baits.
Chemical or battery operated lights are attached close to the bait and with the
aid of a large sinker, the bait is suspended anywhere from 50 feet to 500 feet
deep. Several rods are deployed like this and then the wait begins. Sometimes
the wait is only a few minutes, other times it may be hours, but I would say
that you stand an excellent chance of either hooking or catching a swordfish on
any given night of the year.
South Florida has an excellent swordfish
fishery, and swordfish are truly one of the toughest predators and hardest
fighting fish in the ocean. Once an angler feels the strength of a swordfish and
sees the beauty of it in the boat or upon release, he or she will be hooked for
a lifetime. On any given night you have a chance to catch a fish over 200 pounds
with the possibility of landing one twice that size. The great thing about these
fish is you never know how big the fish that you’re fighting is. Swordfish are
pound for pound the toughest game fish that swim the ocean and will keep an
angler at the ready for a prolonged fight
We use only the best fishing equipment
available to ensure you catch that fish of a lifetime.
